Privacy Policy — DyslexiFocus
DyslexiFocus is a reading companion extension for Chrome that reads selected text aloud and adapts the typography for ADHD, dyslexia and visual stress. This policy explains what data the extension handles. The short version: DyslexiFocus does not collect, store, transmit or sell any personal data. Everything stays on your device.
What Data We Collect
We collect no data at all. The extension does not collect personal information, browsing history, web activity, health information, authentication data, financial information, location data, or any other personal data. It contains no analytics, no telemetry, and no advertising.
What Data Is Stored On Your Device
The extension saves the following items locally in your browser using Chrome's built-in storage API (chrome.storage.local):
- Your display preferences (theme, font size, reading speed, voice, pitch, profile and typography choices).
- Texts you explicitly saved with the "Read later" feature, so you can reopen them from the panel.
A small transient note (the currently selected text you are about to read) is kept briefly in chrome.storage.session and is cleared when the browser closes. None of this data is synced to Google servers — only chrome.storage.local is used.
How Your Data Is Used
All stored data is used only to provide the features you asked for: remembering your reading preferences and reopening texts you saved yourself. Nothing is shared, sold, or used for any other purpose.
AI Features — Fully On-Device
The AI tools (TL;DR, Ask, paragraph labels, glossary, checklist, red flags, translate, quiz and tap-to-explain) run on your own computer using Chrome's built-in on-device model (Gemini Nano). The text you read is never uploaded anywhere — not to us, not to any server. If the built-in model is not available in your browser, the AI features simply show a message; no data is sent as an alternative.
Third-Party Services
The extension does not use any third-party services, analytics providers, advertising networks, or external code. It makes no network requests of its own. The only external link in the interface is a "Buy me a coffee" button that opens the support page in a new tab — no data is sent to it.
Data Sharing
DyslexiFocus does not share, sell, rent or disclose any data to anyone, for any reason.
Data Retention and Deletion
- Stored data stays on your device for as long as you keep the extension installed.
- You can delete saved texts at any time from the "Read later" list in the panel.
- Removing the extension from Chrome (chrome://extensions → Remove) deletes all of its data from your device immediately.
Changes to This Policy
If our data practices ever change, this page will be updated and the date at the top revised. Any material change will also be announced in the extension's description.
